A Few Accessories To Consider When Having New Windows Installed

If you are going to be having new windows installed in your home, take a bit of time and look around at the accessories available too. Look at the outside and inside of the house, to see what will fit, what would make the window look better, and what would be handy to have. If you can't afford to have the accessories installed at the same time as the windows, talk with the salesperson and installation crew to ensure they can be added later and that the windows are installed in a way that will allow for it.

Shutters and Shutter Dogs

Having shutters placed on the outside of each window can add to the look and feel of the house. If you don't want to have to worry about them opening and closing, you can get non-functional ones that stay open and attached to the side of the house. If you want to be able to close them at times, such as during a storm or just for ambience inside, make sure you have shutter dogs ( the things that hold the shutters in place) installed that will hold them open when needed to keep them from slamming back and forth.

Grilles or Guards

Grilles go on the outside of the window. They are used as added security to keep people from getting into your house. They can also provide protection against stray balls from the neighbors' kids. Guards go on the inside of the window. These are used to keep people or pets from accidentally falling out. If you have small kids or animals, having guards is a good idea, even if you have screens.

Window Boxes

Window boxes are a good accessory if you like to have flowers growing around the house. They are especially nice if you don't really have the room to play flowers in the yard or want to have a view of flowers from upstairs windows. Having a few cooking herbs just outside a kitchen window is not only nice to look at, but functional too.

Shutters, grilles, guards and boxes look good, and improve the curb appeal and value of your home in addition to being functional. Anything you do to your house to make it fit in with your style personality will bring a smile to your face. It is the little things that will turn a house into your home.
